A man chooses a woman.
A woman chooses a man.
Then they get married and the fairytale version of life says that they live in bliss happily ever after, no effort required. Ummmm…no… Marriage is work. Work that provides great dividends and satisfaction. Work that requires lots of thought and effort no matter how great the love is.
But more important, marriage is a choice. A choice you make day in and day out. A choice to accept each other, to trust each other, to communicate with each other and to love each other no matter what. It’s a choice to see the best in each other and a choice to sometimes let things slide. A choice to be each other’s best friend.
To my eldest son and to the amazing girl he has asked to be his wife, tonight you guys officially start your journey together. We are so excited and happy for you both and feel blessed that you somehow you managed to find each other thousands of miles from home.
We wish you a wonderful, healthy, happy and fulfilling life together and may you both continue to choose each other each and every day.

A woman chooses a man
To be by her side
To love him as no one else can
To hold her, to hear him
To trust him, to confide
To build dreams together
To be the best of friends
To communicate, to talk
To want to share
To be able to understand
Even when not a single word is exchanged
To accept their differences
And each other for who they are
To feel hugged, even when apart
To feel enveloped in acceptance and love
To know how to say I’m sorry
When he inadvertently makes her cry
To know how to encourage him
Even when he doesn’t know why he’s upset
To make together time a priority
To share, love and listen
To choose each other again
Every morning, evening and night
To know that there is one constant
In this world full of change
Their love for each other
Is what they’ve chosen, from this day on
